Suite Fantasia Caprice
Holy Trinity, Rothwell
Kettering, NN14 6BQ
Philippa begins her programme with joyful Telemann and the well loved and deeply contemplative Sonata in G minor by Bach is later balanced by his stunning Suite in D major for solo cello. Philippa introduces both a Guardian Angel and a Wounded Angel, then takes us through the roles of the violin within the Argentian tango of PIazzolla and African American blues. The programme closes with an implish and richly coloured folkish Fairytale Suite.
Since the Baroque era and before, the instrument together with master virtuoso performers has encouraged experiments and imagination in musical practice. The violin has been called upon to be the voice of darkest moments and at happiest occasions. It has been the voice of angels and devils alike...
Come along to explore the the fantasy the instrument has inspired in these varied musical worlds.
